The PCB layout is almost finished. The stackup has been changed to have no two signal layers next to each other (reducing crosstalk).

17-06-2010: Simulation work started

Simulation work (WP6) has started to debug the NanoFIP design. The testbench is written by an independent person from the author of the CernFIP code. Already some flaws were found in CRC calculations and some issues that are not clear in the manual were spotted.

15-06-2010: Functional system specification review held.

A review of the functional system specification has been held. It resulted in some minor clarifications and in the simplification that input pulses will be ignored until the previous input pulse delay has expired.

We are still looking for the right connector type to use to get ten or more differential channels in. One suggestion is to use the Camera Linkhttp://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_WW/electronics/home/productsandservices/CameraLink/ standard using individually shielded twisted pairs.

28-05-2010: First component placement

A first idea of how the board will look like can be seen from the image of the component placement (see the wiki page). The board will be implemented as a full-size (long) PCIe card that will ease routing.

28-05-2010: The board is a beauty!

For bringing the SMC connectors I passed by the assembly workshop and had a chance to have a look at the three assembled PCBs. The boards look really beautiful with the four rows of black Panasonic switches clearly visible.

We received a new layout that should include changes requested after the PCB layout review. It will be verified before launching the production of the prototypes.

26-05-2010: Gennum engineer will review schematics

The schematics review is planned to be held on 2 June. Gennum will also review the schematics. Having this company, that designed the PCI Express interface chip that we use on the board, will definitively help to make a first-class open hardware design!
