FMC ADC 100M 14b 4cha
25-10-2010: OHR design possibly used for Hadron therapy
One of the prototype FMC ADC cards has been donated to the non-profit institution TERA. The primary objective of the TERA Foundation is the development of radiotherapy techniques based on the use of hadron particles. The ADC card, that is designed under the Open Hardware paradigm, fulfills the needs of TERA and may in the future be used to read-out detectors used in hadron therapies.

25-10-2010: Ten V2 boards will be produced
After extensive testing of the prototype card (V1), several improvements have been made. This culminated in the V2 version of which ten will be produced, to be available on a December timescale.

WR switch PTP compliance tested in ISPCS 2010 plugfest
Tomasz went to ISPCS 2010 and tried the prototype WR switch with other PTP-compliant devices during the plugfest. The switch successfully talked PTP with hardware from Hirschmann, Beckhoff, Oregano, Ruggedcom, Semtech and ZHAW.

First two-month development cycle for WR switch started
The WR switch design effort is transitioning into a new development model, with two-month cycles that include a kick-off meeting for planning the two months of work and a meeting at the end to check results. The project is now split into HW (lead by Tomasz Wlostowski) and SW (lead by Alessandro Rubini) development. A separate sub-project has been created for the SW part. The goals for this first two-month effort can be seen in the wiki pages of both projects.
VXS DSP FMC carrier
13-09-2010: OHR Wiki page started
The VXS DSP FMC carrier design, to be developed by the BE-RF-CS section at CERN will take part in the Open Hardware project. A Wiki page has been made including a block diagram.

10-09-2010: PCB layout start
The comments from the schematics review have been taken into account and PCB layout starts. The aim is to make a low cost 6-layer board (cf. a 12-layer one for the more complex FMC PCIe Carrier - PFC), while paying much attention to signal quality issues such as signals crossing splits in the power planes.

07-09-2010: Schematics review held
The third schematics review of the Simple PCI Express FMC carrier has been held. Some improvements and simplifications of the schematics are required, after which the PCB layout can be started.

08-09-2010: Testing continues
The ADC board is extensively being tested. The harmonics problem seen was actually caused by the signal generator used. The I2C bus is tested and accessing the EEPROM memory, setting the sampling frequency and making temperature measurements are now possible. There appeared an issue with linearity in the 30-90 kHz region caused by offset compensation circuit. This issue, which is repeatable by simulation, is under investigation.
